For the Love of…Cows…

I happened across this link today and was reminded, once again, of the incredible ill-logic of the anti-raw milk, factory/confinement farming set.  I don’t quite understand why it’s so hard to understand that cows raised in unhealthy confinement, produce unhealthy milk.  Then this lady actually gives her son some of the raw milk from their own dairy and is surprised when he gets sick.  Then, applying the anti-raw milk ill-logic, she comes to the conclusion that raw milk in general is the culprit.  The assumption is first cast that her cows are healthy.  Her supposedly healthy cows should then produce healthy raw milk.  They didn’t, so therefore ALL raw milk should be illegal.  Obviously this woman does not understand the basic laws of logic.

So, as her logic goes, cows need variety in their diets like people do, therefore you should feed your cows cookies and doughnuts.  Baked goods?  Really?!  Now who gives cookies and doughnuts to their kids, even in moderation, claiming that it is best for them for a healthy, balanced diet?  Furthermore, they till up sawdust and manure and call it bedding for their cows.  Look, you can call it a “compost dairy barn” all you want, but it’s still letting your cows, raised in confinement, lie around in their own crap.  How is this a healthy environment again?

I wish more people would care about this stuff, do some homework, apply some REAL logic, and allow the rest of us who actually have bothered to think these things through to have access to HEALTHY raw milk sources.  That is, raw milk from cows that are allowed to graze out in the sunshine where they belong.  I know plenty of people who have been doing this for years, consuming the raw milk from their cows (and raising their children on it), and are perfectly healthy.  Can we please stop assuming that just because someone gets sick on raw milk that therefore all raw milk is bad?  All kinds of people have gotten e-coli from peanut butter, lettuce, spinach, and other foods but no one is clamoring to pasteurize those, are they?  Where is the common sense in all this?  Mind you, I’m not saying everyone should be made to drink raw milk, I just want those of us who would like to have the option, to have a legal option.  Instead, as usual, the government seems to know what is best for me better than I do.  Sigh…
