For Sale - Cheap!

You know, selling a house is quite the stressful endeavor. It doesn’t have to be, mind you; but I find that the mere proposition of selling a house, looking for a new one, packing things up, moving these things, then unpacking these things can be an overwhelming prospect. Now, we haven’t gotten so much as an insulting offer or a negative comment yet so I can’t say the process has even remotely taken off. Of course, it has only been up for sale for a little less than a week. Still, I’m understanding why so many people have nervous breakdowns when they try and relocate. It seems I’m constantly having to coach myself to take one thing at a time. It’s hard not to get your hopes up.

On the upside, two hours after listing our house, our realtor got a call from someone who wanted to see it. So we did the obligatory last-minute cleanup last Friday night and Saturday morning in order to get the place spruced up for a 12:00 viewing on Saturday. All went fairly well, except that we didn’t get one iota of feedback so we can assume it was not a very interested party; which is what I would expect for the first visitor. Still, you have that little voice in the back of your head that wonders, “what if the first person to look at our house decides to buy it? We could sell our house after two hours on the market, while the rest of these poor saps are waiting 9 months to a year to sell theirs! HA HA! Losers!” But alas, this is naturally not the case, in spite of my bestest, super-hard wishing.

Another upshot though, is that someone from my workplace has expressed interest in the house which would be even better since we could conduct that transaction without paying realtor commissions. For the cost of an attorney to draw up the documents, we could leave with at least twice as much cash as what the realtor would leave us with. That is an encouraging thought…although she is waiting to sell her house as well so she is kind of in the same boat as we are. Needless to say, I’m not holding my breath for that one either.

So, we wait…and wait…and wait some more. Who knows? Perhaps someone will come along out of the blue and surprise us all. If not, though, I know it is best to leave these things in more capable hands and continue on, expecting the right things will happen at the right time. God willing, by this time next year, we’ll be comfortably settled into another place, a little closer to everything, and maybe even have a fireplace! Oooh. And a spacious kitchen! Aaah. And…and…peace and quiet…hmmmm…

Moving on…
