How the Kingdom Comes
I just read an interesting article on Christianity Today’s website. It was forwarded to me from a good friend and is quite compelling in its attention to the current evangelical subculture in America. It can be found here. It is written by Michael Horton who is someone I greatly admire; I have read one or two of his books and he is quite a prolific writer. I enjoyed the article considerably; although while he correctly addresses the needed discussions on the concepts of community and culture as far as the church is concerned, I’m not sure what I think about the idea that the church is not a culture, which is an issue he draws on in the article (please read the article before commenting on this point). It is a community, he says, which I agree with, but the idea that the church has its own culture is one I’ve grown to accept and advocate. He does, however, make some interesting points in defense of this statement. It should spark some interesting thought and dialog amongst those patient and interested enough to engage. I hope you check it out. For anyone who gives two hoots about the church in its present state, this kind of dialog should be paramount in my opinion.
Peace to you all.
